Welcome Desk Attendant

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Membership and Marketing, the Welcome Desk Attendant will serve as an ambassador for the YMCA through all aspects of member service; providing outstanding member service to all users of the YMCA. 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma preferred.

  • Experience and knowledge of YMCA programs, offerings, and mission preferred.

  • Ability to work in a very fast paced environment is required.

  • Staff must be computer literate to perform basic functions (i.e. type letters, envelopes, labels, lists etc.).

  • Staff must be able to learn the YMCA’s database software for member information, member enrollment, program registration, etc. 

  • Be able to read and write

  • Be able to lift at least 25 pounds

  • Be able to obtain or already possess Red Cross CPR/AED/Oxygen and First Aid certification

  • Be able to stoop, bend and stretch when performing duties

  • Be able to communicate effectively with members, guests, staff, and supervisor via telephone, written, and verbal means

  • Achieve and maintain a required level of competency in all assigned work areas as determined by immediate supervisor

Essential Functions

  • Maintain a friendly, professional, and positive environment in order to achieve an overall feeling of welcome at the YMCA. 

  • Promote, sell and encourage YMCA programs.  Responsible for professional and accurate sign up procedures for programs and memberships.

  • Provide friendly, accurate and professional phone transactions.  All calls should be handled in a positive and professional manner.  Messages for staff should be accurate, easy to read, include date, time, caller, phone number, and staff initials.

  • Answer general questions accurately on programs and services both in person and on the phone.  Detailed concerns should be passed on to Director in charge of program.

  • Maintain and enforce proper building usage procedures.

  • Enforce proper member check in procedures at all times.  Scan membership cards, type in members who did not bring cards, and check all receipts or program cards for people using YMCA.

  • Remain current and up-to-date on events and happenings by reading current Program Guides, flyers, etc.  Staff must be knowledgeable in all programs in order to accurately answer questions and promote the YMCA and its programs.

  • Adhere completely to the YMCA Welcome Desk Dress Code in order to keep a professional appearance.  This includes always wearing staff name tag and YMCA staff shirt. 

  • Assist with laundry as needed and/or assigned. 

  • Check equipment in and out and follow procedures for equipment check out.

  • Maintain clean work area to include service desk, member service office and lobby.

  • Conduct superior tours for prospective members and promotes the YMCA in a positive manner whenever possible, supporting our YMCA Mission and Values at all times.

  • Work scheduled shift, be on time or early for each shift, and adhere to call-in/sub procedure outlined in Welcome Desk Manual. 

  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Membership and Marketing.
