Nursery Attendant

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Membership Director, the nursery attendant is responsible for providing a stimulating and safe environment for children while parents are using the YMCA facilities. 

Qualifications

  • Understands the YMCA mission and character development values.

  • Knowledge of children and their behavior and a genuine desire to work with them

  • Experience working with children, infants through toddler ages

  • Ability to build strong relationships with adults and children

  • Certifications: CPR and First Aid within 30 days of hire.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and critical thinking skills.

  • Knowledge of YMCA rules, regulations and policies.

  • Being able to sit, stand and bend to perform appropriate tasks.

  • Be able to lift at least 25 pounds

  • Must be able to move at an appropriate pace to respond in emergency situations

Essential Functions

  • Provide a positive, safe and nurturing environment for the children in nursery care.

  • Never leave a child alone.

  • Implement character values during care and discipline of each child.

  • Maintain positive and professional communication with parents of children in nursery care.

  • Ensure all parents/guardians sign their children in and out of nursery care on appropriate forms.

  • Sanitize, clean and organize nursery at the end of each shift.

  • Report any damaged items to immediate supervisor.

  • Assume any other duties or tasks as assigned by immediate supervisor.

  • Attend all required YMCA meetings and trainings.
