The Junior Counselor Program is a hands-on leadership experience designed for teens entering 7th and 8th grade (2025-26 school year) who want to build leadership, communication, and life skills while assisting summer camp counselors with daily responsibilities.
Participants will complete a structured leadership curriculum and gain practical experience by working alongside camp staff. They will learn how to handle the responsibilities of a counselor, develop teamwork skills, and embody the YMCA’s core values—caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Program Details:
Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays | 9 AM – 4 PM
Commitment: 10 weeks (flexible scheduling—choose the days that work best)
Cost: $50 registration fee if selected
Training: Junior Counselors must attend portions of summer camp training.

Application Process:
Interested students must complete an application that includes essay questions and submit two letters of recommendation from a teacher, coach, and/or school administrator.. There will also be an interview process before final selections are made. Applications are due May 1st. No late applications will be accepted.
